Welcome to Sound Cognitive Therapy

Dr. Lauren Bodkin is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides cognitive therapy to both children and adults at Sound Cognitive Therapy. As Project Director of the Center of Prevention and Evaluation (COPE) at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Bodkin managed the daily operations of a busy research clinic. She provided consultation and training to mental health professionals in NY and NJ regarding diagnosis and treatment of young adults at risk for severe mental illness. While earning her doctorate from Long Island University, she trained at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, Brookdale Medical Center, and the Long Island Center for Cognitive Therapy. During the course of her training, Dr. Bodkin worked on adult and child inpatient units, a child day treatment unit, a psychiatric emergency room, a detoxification unit, an outpatient substance abuse clinic, an ambulatory care unit, a family outpatient clinic, and a private practice.

Having a deep commitment to adult literacy, Dr. Bodkin provided psychoeducational evaluation and treatment to adults with Learning Disabilities, Developmental Disorders, and Attention Disorders at the Fisher Landau Center for the Treatment of Learning Disabilities at Yeshiva University, Einstein Medical Center for two years. Dr. Bodkin also worked for several years as a consultant at South Shore Cognitive Therapy in Lawrence, NY, where she provided both cognitive therapy to children, adults and families and neuropsychological and educational testing to children and young adults.  Dr. Bodkin believes strongly in evidence-based treatment and has published journal articles and lectured on topics such as parent training for child sleep problems and substance use and risk for severe mental illness among teens.
